Case Erecting Packing and Sealing Are Different Operations
Understand the roles of case erecting, product loading and case sealing when planning downstream packaging automation.
Case erecting prepares the case
Case erecting turns a flat case blank into an open case and completes the specified bottom closure. Case structure, dimensions, board condition and closure method are relevant selection inputs. Preparing the case and loading the product are separate operations.
Case packing defines how products enter the case
Case packing involves product presentation, positioning, picking or manual loading, and arrangement inside the case. Product stability, dimensions, weight and incoming orientation affect the packing method. Manual and robotic packing require different working arrangements.
Case sealing closes the loaded case
Case sealing follows product loading. Flap handling, size adjustment and tape or adhesive closure vary by configuration. Selection should define both the case specification and the tasks that remain with the operator.
Define automation across the full process
A line with an erector and sealer may still use manual product loading or flap folding. Review each operation, conveying direction, equipment interface and space requirement when defining automation. Including manual tasks in the workflow makes the proposed scope easier to assess.
